The Praying Mantis
Once she wished she was big, tall and scary
with a large body that was very hairy.
If she was large she could run ‘round and play
And she could make long trips most every day.
But she could end up being someone’s meal
So being big might not be a good deal.
Instead she was small and thin as a rail
She had big eyes, but she didn’t have a tail.
With her long legs, green body, slender wings
Her camouflage was a beautiful thing.
Since she could perch very still on a branch
The bugs passing by would not have a chance.
She prayed “Thanks for hiding me in a tree
Where now… I’m so happy just to be me”
