The Praying Mantis

Mantis,
o
Mantis,
what
did
you
pray?

I
did
pray
that
the
world
be
blessed
and
gay.

Mantis,
o
Mantis,
what
did
you
prey?

I
did
prey
two
ants
fallen
from
the
tray
of
a
flying
fay.

Mantis,
o
Mantis,
where
do
you
stay?

I
stay
on
the
delicate
grass
and
on
barren
hay.

Mantis,
o
Mantis,
where
did
you
go
yesterday?

Yesterday
I
went
to
Bengal's
bay
to
say
an
evil
fay
would
come
the
way
of
the
sun's
ray
that
day
and
I
came
to
pray
for
a
good
day.
