The Power of Observation

The Power of Observation

Crystal clear perception announces
the arrival of contempt, long before
the fly circles the web of deceit.

Trapped for what seemed like millennia,
the compromised congressman knows
he can deliver a speech to fool all but the
most discerning spiders.

The sounds he made when captured
were audible only to the light-seekers,
who vanished when the mass-graves
were filled in.

Changing the street-light grid to allow
swift passage through the roadblocks
in his mind, the blacked-out four-door
mercedes hurried to his destination
on the dark side, eager to arrive on time
to a get-out-the-vote rally his supporters
had so thoughtfully arranged, unaware that
his soul was the last meal,

unaware, that his soul

          ….was the last meal

Dear Jimbo, you are one discerning spider and I love this intuitive, insightful political poem. I hope you entered it in the "I Hate Politicians" contest. A winner for sure. Those last two lines -- bullseye, my friend! Love, Carolyn
