The Potency of Words

Words speak life! Words are not mute.
They give wings to ideas and how thoughts commute.

Words take a feeling and are sent to convey
A passion or meaning in all that we say.

Words resonate power, they create an impression
They give substance to love and a voice to expression.

In their varied and intricate methods of sharing
Words define people and deserve shrewd preparing.

Words are a healer or words are a sword.
The companion of kings, and what fools can't afford.

Words are a needle, from the depths of our hearts
Like a phonograph blaring, our choice and foul parts.

Words ought to speak truth, but words can lie
They can free the accused or sentence to die.

What you say matters more than all else you possess
Words will govern your future and dictate duress.

Thanks Karen! How fortunate we are to have such a deep inventory of words to select when wordsmithing our poems! Oops, I don't think wordsmithing is a real word!? Ha ha. Thanks for your kind words, Karen.

Tom, powerful words illustrating the impact of words. I agree "what you say matters!" This is a great reminder to engage the brain before opening the mouth!!! I like your couplet format so like the Psalms where one line calls and the second line responds! Thank you for sharing your wisdom. Congratulations on being on the Top 100 poems! So happy for you! Sending you words of blessing!

Sam, thank you so much! I was so surprised and delighted to make the top 100 new poems. It is interesting that you mention the Psalms as I have been reading them often the past few months. I think the style got into me by loving the book so much! All the best to you Sam, and bless you!
