"Who I Used To Be" Poetry Contest

Sponsor: Silent One

SECOND PLACE

Who I used to be?  Not an easy answer - as I turn the pages of my life to the past and ponder,  feels like a wonder!!!! Blessed to be born in a blissful home,  cocooned by a fearless, courageous father  and a spiritual, dedicated mother, life was a luscious lavish garden for me - love bloomed like the delicate Dahlias  and charming Chrysanthemums, with tender care and immersed attention, each tiny petal with ravishing beauty!  It was the opulence of affection, Not the glamour of worldly possessions!  I felt like a princess in my father's kingdom, although it was not the reality... I was born in an uprooted family... who missed the land and memories they left overnight!  A house adorned and encircled by verdant plants and tall trees, where my imaginary brook flowed beside the cottage humming and meandering softly! In that abode I, with a heart brimming with sapphire imagination, and eyes full of lilac dreams...  blossomed reading and writing poetry! Watched my mother's folded hands in prayer,  Observed my father's helping hands for the needy,  Listened to mother reminiscing her fairytale childhood days,  Forging a strong fascination for storytelling, turning into a passion! a fountain of kindness and piety descended from their souls, the cadence of devotion inspiring me to be a complete whole!  Grandparents bestowed the guiding light,  growing up with siblings was a cherished boon,  Humility and politeness were the virtues encouraged, compassion for the poor, respect for deserving, A sense of thankfulness surrounded my young demeanor! Like the secret life of a precious pearl being formed,  My personality was forged by the inter-mingling of traits and charisma inherited from family,  I miss my previous self - eyes gleaming with golden aspirations and dreams,  Although confidence, self-reliance, being articulate and independent unleashed a new direction to life,  The old me has given birth to a persona Which led to an untrodden path!
