The People I Meet At The Dollar Tree

often smile back at me,
but not at Whole Foods,
where scowling shoppers
are on a mission of health,
come hell or high water

Apparently, a bowl full of kale
makes the world go round
for the striving less than happy hunters,
the cranky customers
in Lulu Lemon

No time for pleasantries
while chasing white rabbits
"The hurrier I go, the behinder I get"

Just too much money,
under-loved lives,
and too many leftovers

Either way,
I relish in the wind
making music for me

It is in the trees,
mimicking waves
like the long grass
that Glenn Close
('Sarah, Plain and Tall')
describes, coloring my soul
in every shade of connection:

"The land here rolls a little like the sea
and when the wind ripples over the grass
it looks just like the wind
on the sea"

In 'Phenomenon'
John Travolta sways in rhythm
with the longer living trees,
reminding me of continuity

"Everything is on its way
to somewhere"
