The Pensive Poet

The Pensive Poet Poetry Contest,
Constance La France.

Journeying back in time,
A walk into the past,
Days filled with sunshine and twilight,
Memories of both gloom and bloom.

A road stretched before me after the Iroko tree was bared and felled.
I journeyed along a pebbled, undulating path,
Held by kind hands, yet left at different times.
Misunderstood and misjudged,
I found solace in spiritual songs and nature,
Nurtured by different hands,
Embraced by many but understood by few.

Living on less than is required,
Insufficiency became a window to the mystery that has sculpted me.
Twilight's benevolence provided a roof when I was barred from my home.
My siblings offered support, but friends propped me up.
I have yet to revel in the extravagant beauty of the former.

I gave up my place for a loved one,
And my affection and kindness have taught me endurance.
I walk on this tightrope,
And sometimes when I sing,
I sing from the pain that gnaws at my mind.

Sometimes when I pray,
I pray from the pangs of the turmoil that has belittled me.
At times, I feel like a forgotten home;
The silence sings songs that seek redemption.
The shadows remember memories that ache the soul.

Sometimes when I smile,
I smile because a meadow blossoms within me.
This pebbled, undulating road has taught me courage and resilience.
I have lost my comfort,
But I ride on the wings of hope,
Envisioning a new day and a new life.

This pebbled, undulating road still leads me home,
A home where I am sometimes embraced,
A home where disparate dispositions have yet to bond.
Twilight awakens me,
Guiding me to unravel and hope.
