The Pendulum Swings

With the speed that history's written we can read it in a flash. Centuries pass in moments; dynasties rise and crash. Man has lived off flesh of man; his power shores a wall. He may never see it crumble but in time the wall does fall - 'cause the pendulum swings for everything, what's here today will cease. History reads where there is war, it's followed up by peace. If we want peace prepare for war kind of takes us all aback, for if we can't see the enemy - why would we ever think like that? All the time our neighbors eyes look to what we can be worth. Don't think that we are different to any other place on earth - 'cause the pendulum swings for everything, time swings it back and forward. History reads where there is peace, it's followed up by war. Politics and religion - add racial to the pack, often raise their ugly heads, bringing on attack. Weakening the inner sanctum - murder is no more a sin. Society turns to a human waste as the bloody lot caves in - 'cause the pendulum swings for everything, where political greed does sway. So where the peace is holding on, war is never far away.

Our Planet is in a chaotic state, every country ready to go to war with each other, greed rules the world, green with envy is evident, war will come and with it another era of mankind, but if this silent war continues in the same vein, half the world's population will decrease - I am exaggerating of course but populations will be thinned out. I thoroughly enjoyed this poem Lindsay - lovely write. Blessings, Jennifer.

Lindsay, this is vividly descriptive of the chaos time has wrought. I hope something good will come from the present-day racial chaos in the U.S. Change is needed. Janice

Hello Janice … race, religion, culture, produce ignorance that can only lead to conflict. I also hope that racial problems worldwide can be sorted out - thank you Janice - Lindsay

Lindsay, This poem is filled to the brim with wisdom. It is, in effect, a summary of world history. It manages to do that while displaying an excellent rhyme scheme and perfect "flow." It is, in short, a wonderful, keeper-quality composition (wish I had written it). Thank you. Hugs, Paul

Hello Paul … unfortunately this is a picture of human history. I fear the causes of war are too ingrained now and only extinction could cure it - thanks again Paul for a fine comment - Lindsay

My great grandfather who was very old when I was very young said 'Jennifer, if I close my eyes my whole life flashes beofre me in 5 minutes.' I couldn't understand then, but how true. Blessings and hugs, Jennifer.
