The Past Was the Mountain Between Us

Closer and closer
We were stretched in time
Loving each other was our prime target
Then
Love met a mountain

Set in our ways
The past always preys on the outcome
We knew the outcome because
The past was the mountain between us!

Further and further
We were stretched in time
Still hoping we forgot about our prime target

Love met reality
The past is a weak reason to
Let a season of love past but
The grip of the past was too strong!
It was the mountain between us

We walked with our heads held high
The day we said goodbye
We both knew the outcome before we started!

The past was the mountain between us
Even though love can be a fountain of youth
In reality the past is a tool of destruction in many ways!

[Too many hold on to the pain of their divorce]
