The Parting

Betrayed
by lies.
Dismayed
she cries.
Misplayed
she tries
to apologize.

Unmade
he sighs.
Unswayed
his eyes
display
no surprise,
only
good-byes.

Love this tight poem, the form adds to the feeling of a short term relationship.

I'm sorry I didn't reply earlier. Somehow I missed this update. I'm glad you liked the poem. I tried to convey the tense awkwardness of the situation with the short lines.

Yep. It always galled me how the boy in the relationship would treat the girl badly (being with other girls, talking down to her, etc) and the girl usually thought she did something wrong to deserve it!

Thank you, Joseph. As a middle school teacher, I saw this thing play out too many times.
