The Palmetto Bug

Once while visiting my wife's mom
There was a disruption to the calm
When a very large palmetto bug
Went quickly scurrying across the rug

My wife was shaken down to her core
But her mother had seen them before
When it was just about to reach her
She put here bare foot on the creature!

I have to say that was a surprise
There was terror in my wife's eyes
When it got loose she let out a yell
You'd think the devil came up from hell!

Her knees up to her chin would reach
Every high step brought out a screech
The bug passed on, her mom did it in
But now we can say remember when!

I guess it's what you're used to. We had roaches when I was young in Wichita, but I've never seen one that big before!!...pat
