The Other Side
A sweet, serene woman
Stands before you
Or does she?
Appearing to be
Just like you
Her aura hints of a life
With a sense of normalcy
At first glance
You would never know that
There is anything wrong with her
She keeps her secret well hidden
Most of the time
But, just below the surface
There is always that demon
Waiting to be unleashed
So it can control her mind
And wreck havoc on her unstable life
The demon sometimes
Gives her subtle rewards
When he emerges
That are really just
Clever methods to
Strengthen his power
Unbound less energy
No need to slow down
For peaceful slumber
Euphoria
On cloud nine
In her grandiose
State of mind
She thinks there are no limits
To what she can do
Living for the moment
The consequences of her adventures
Never seriously entertain her mind
Not enough to bring a halt
To this magical wonderland
She is floating in
Her manic delusions
Are deceiving her
But, every season must
Come to an end
She feels a change
Euphoria quickly turns
Into bitter rage
Hysterical panic
Pessimism
Overwhelming melancholy
Infinite sadness
What brought her joy
Just moments before
Has now become a double edged sword
Stabbing her in the heart
The demon elevated her mood
Because he knew that it would
Eventually cause her to crash
And be at his mercy
Now her depression is debilitating
Her very existence
Thoughts of guilt
Hopelessness
And death
Haunt her every day
She draws the curtains
Staying in bed
Avoiding her life
Optimism not in her grasp
For the demon sent her
Descending into an abyss of darkness
That she cannot escape
It is out of her control
She has to wait until the demon
Entices her with his trickery
Filling her life with
Blissful exhilaration
Of until he sets her free
But, just for a spell
She can enjoy
A life of stability
Until the demon attacks again
Sending her life spiraling
Out of control once again
Into the pits of hell
