The One That Got Away

We came together to look out from
our respective balconies
He lived in the opposite house from me
This went on all summer, I felt all warm and fuzzy
The day he left for college he waved goodbye to me

I looked sad, I felt bad, from now on it was
summer love for me.
The next time I saw him he had grown taller,
My heart skipped a beat it was a repeat of a visual treat
He caught my gaze and set it ablaze
But this time around he made it a point to talk to me.

We would catch glimpse’s of each other
Like the sun catches the fresh new leaves
Love blossomed this year, it was summer love for both
under the shadow of the balcony.

His father held an Army Job and got a transfer
He left one day from the house opposite to me
Time flew by, and we moved our separate ways
He was my first love, the one that got away.
