In Málaga, Spain, the birthplace of Pablo Picasso,  is The Cathedral of Málaga; unfinished, it is missing a spire, earning it the nickname La Manquita, Spanish for "one armed lady".

Drawing from the shadow of La Manquita The mighty Spanish master from Málaga Painted his m'lady borderline grotesque Features so far flung and un fathomably stretched She had an eye in Segovia and a nose in Madrid 7/9/2019 H G Longfellow Inspired Poetry Contest Sponsored by Julia Ward

And he was a poet and playwright, whose first word was pencil, ("piz", actually, short for Spanish lapiz) ... this is fun and charming, and witty in a very artistic sort of way - love it! (I did a piece on Sargent's "El Jaleo" a while ago - a similar experience to seeing Guernica in person the first time - bam!). Wonderful write!

He's been one of the most influential artists for me, not his style, but his diversity, that there are no rules, and to draw from the child within. My fingers are crossed Julia likes it, I'm tickled with how it came together. Thank you dear! xomo <3

When I read Malaga I thought it was Picasso. Then your description confirmed it for me. No I did not do that name from memory. I thought it would be interesting to show why he went by Picasso.

Your wonderful words "borderline grotesque" are so perfectly Picasso, Maureen. In Madrid all rage about the Prada, but we went to the Sophia Regina instead. That's where the Picasso's are hanging. Your poem is so wonderfully cubistic!!!

I at least stood for an hour in Madrid amazed by Guernica.

...People like to say he painted that way because he hated women; I disagree. I think he could not get enough of them.

Thank you my friend! I am reminded of the Picasso show at The National Gallery, I took myself for my birthday. I was so absorbed! I could not wrap my mind around the observers shuffling around with headsets on, I was engorged piece by piece, grinning ear to ear, I could have spent an hour with each. xomo!

...that said, I think I have figured out how Picasso became Picasso lol! My favourite quote, it took him a lifetime to learn to draw like a child.
