The Old Scribe
The Old Scribe
Memory in hand the ancient mariner of memories
Readies to recapture – to transcribe - in fading ink
A whisper of recollections – one speck in eternity –
Illuminated by the lamp circumscribing shadows
To describe, as the guardian of children’s children,
The oral history inscribed within a tapestry –
Well worn, threadbare -
History retold in a way prescribed
By the page and pen ascribed to time’s signature -
Time’s traveler – riding on a stylus quill of plumes –
Conscribes seconds, minutes, days and decades
To breathe déjà vu as scribes of spoken portraits
Lining legendary walls and weeping wells,
Subscribing to reflection’s markers – place cards –
Bookmarks in dimmed eyes and sun kissed hands -
Remembrance illustrated – scenes re-seen.
