The Old Man
The first man in my life
He promised to guide me and protect from strife
Whose callused hands and weathered face
Set the standard for the human race
The old man
Who taught me right from wrong each day
Ensured I walked an enlightened way
Who took me to construction sites
And thought me how to be safe at night
The old man
After hard days’ work he sat with me
While checking homework so patiently
Told me stories of foreign lands
And always there to lend an hand
The old man
The most joyous face the day I wed
The most wonderful words to my wife he said
I am the man I am today
Because he guided me all this way
The old man
The ravages of time have come
And taken him to his forever home
Forever in my heart there is a place
Where every day I see his face
I miss him, My old man
