The Old Harp For Lorenna Mckennet

I found
an old harp
wood and reeds and silver clean
[ an harmonica ]
it was a Gem
in an old
Salvation Army
store
they did not know
the value and so
with me it rode

Oh how it plays
I have carried
and played it
Oh so many many
days many
and on so many roads
and along so many many
ways

It has been taken
then returned
and stashed in drawers
and pack pouches and tent
places and im sure tis
have suffered more
than even I
But, lo and thanks
the old awesome
Irish
harp
still plays

and sounds it's
magic unto this day
when I am
given
breath and spirit
and will to play
The old Irish harp
the best one I have ever had

But now you know
it makes me sad
but also glad
I must needs
buy a new one
and so retire
it alas
it is no longer fit
but oh Lord
I do so love it
She does not play
the way she used
to do but I will
keep her yet
and with that
will say adieu

I have felt this feeling too - treasured things with us of memories past .
