The Ocean's Color Teal

In shades of teal the ocean's roaring calls.
A realm so deep where life in ripples lives,
a world of shells where boundless beauty sprawls.

Beneath the sky a water color-scape
wild currents move in rhythmic Afro dance.
In shades of teal the ocean's roaring calls.

Sunlight falls through surface green and blue
creating teal amid the kelp and grass,
a world of shells where boundless beauty sprawls.

Within the darkened blue so deep and wide
the mystic sea unveils its great display
in shades of teal as ocean's roaring calls.

A gentler call as nighttime stars come out.
The gems are seen in stony tidal trays,
a world of shells where boundless beauty sprawls.

As twilight winds regain their strength afar
in fog a moonlit echo can be heard.
In shades of teal the ocean's roaring calls,
a world of shells where boundless beauty calls.

(Unrhymed Villanelle)

You have expressed this beautifully. Sometimes the attempt to adhere to pure poetic forms clashes with our muses work.

I put in the line about currents moving in Afro dance, although I've never been to African Coast. But I love listening to the African music. I love the afrobeats. Thanks for appreciating my poem. Moon Harp

Thank you so much Gordon, for appreciating my work. I miss visiting the Northern California coastal beaches where I used to do beachcombing. Moon Harp

Beautiful lines. I was wondering about your rhyme scheme and then got to the bottom where you noted it was in rhymed!

Thank you Andrea for appreciating my poem. And of course being an unrhymed villanelle it would not be eligible for a contest. But it is much easier to write and presents a beautiful poem in itself. Moon Harp

Thank you, Nette. I'm glad you liked it, and now you know a poet can write an unrhymed villanelle, although of course it would not count for a contest.

Thank you so much, Karen, for appreciating my poem. It turns out that the unrhymed villanelle is much easier to write. Check out the form on line, then use only your two repeating lines, and don't worry about rhyming the rest of it. Moon Harp
