The Obstinate Heart

My desolate heart, my obstinate friend
Do not be naïve, please understand
That glittering faces you mustn’t eye
Everything enchanting is not thy

You fret, fry, burn and agonize
Your cravings, wailing and your cries
That incessantly my patience try
Years elapse but do not die

You keep no malice and hatred I know
Your loyalty and fidelity and feeling’s flow
Your kindness, your benevolence is aglow
Your transcendent face your virtues show

Unattainable Stars and moon aspires
One can’t get whatever he desires?
The clouds, the sky and colors of rainbow,
The fragrant roses that beauty bestow.

Peace, tranquillity, serenity and more
All that is lost is knocking at door
Share with others or own and keep.
But to your maladies no one will weep

Take my advice although it’s tough
Love without seeking repayment in love

BJ Thomas had a song in the 70's with the line, " Even a bad love is better than no love at all." Our biggest desires are usually the things we can't have. Vince

Have been reading some of your writing since its been awhile since you've posted new ... this is just magnificent and so true !! Unconditional love is a very hard principle to practice ... I have been so fortunate in my life to have known it from a couple of people and I do try to practice it myself but my judgments often come back to haunt/taunt me ... smile ...

This has really nice rhythm. It's always fun to look up a word in the dictionary and find it describes my personality so closely, especially when I didn't know the word existed beforehand. I think we're on the same page with your closing, especially the 'tough' part.

This is excellent. I like the philosophy in the piece and how the theme flows. This sounds like great advice to me. It’s like finding a gold nugget in a hay stack. Great job! ~Joseph

YES! An excellent, timeless message. Give give give for the gift of it, for it is its own gift, that feeling one get's when giving, to see the other's joy, and happiness - THAT IS the repayment! More need to know this message intimatly - awesome my friend, love Kristin

This is such a poignant write! Extremely well expressed. Just touches the heart with the message it outlays. I have felt the same thing after years of disappointment and hence this poem means a lot to me as well as for many others. Love ne'er seeks repayment yet out of our human virtue we can't help it out, and when we do we really know the real depths of love. Great job! Love, Chitra

You are such an excellent poet, with each one of your works I'm more impressed. This is deep with feeling and emotion, and yet a touch of weariness of someone who seems to be in the state of discontent. It is hard to be patient with one who always needs more. Keep up the excellent work, great poem! ~ Carrie

such an outstanding display of emotions, and warmth within this write, it makes one ponder and wonder what lies beneath the heart of the one penning this write, with such depth and clarity and beauty I behold within a gentle and loving heart, exqusite and thought-provoking, this left me wondering, take care D-nyce
