The Nightmare

She called a name in the eleventh hour, And the name that parted her lips was mine She stood in the doorway with hair a'fire, And evil from her eyes did shine With earth a'shaking and walls a'quaking Hell came rising from my floor She screamed and spattered and glass did shatter Until my ears could take no more Then up came bubbling from the ground A scroll that came from another time It floated right above my head, Then the witch chanted wicked rhyme; "Rise, my children, from the earth! Come join me at my beck and call! Rise, and tear this soul apart 'Til there is nothing left at all!" Then coming with great heave and shudder The demons came a'prancing up Circling me on every side Wanting my blood to fill their cup The witch did cackle, moan and groan As I watched the scroll unfurl The demons laughed with wretched glee And about me began to whirl "The time has come", the old hag said, "To have your name upon this scroll Once we have it, it is done And I will then posses your soul" I tried to run, and tried to scream, But all I tried was much in vain For in that moment I glanced down As my arm, it burned with awful pain Cuts appeared I know not how Blood falling from my fingertips It pooled around me like a pond And in my blood, a demon slips Then on the scroll my name was did come Written in my stolen blood The cuts, they deepened and worsened so, Until it poured forth like a flood The scroll then flew to her mangled hands A toothy grin upon her face She screamed, "My children, it is done!" Their howls and racket filled the space Then towards my body the demons crawled Licking their lips in eager wait I fell to the ground in utter defeat Knowing I could no escape my fate So in a demon's body I slither And to the witch's side I stay I prowl around the earth with her Finding more lost souls to prey
