The Night the Stars Went Out
I said it.
“I’m in love with you.”
And you,
You just stood there. A wall.
No expression.
No inflection.
No affection.
How can you be so immovable
After such a declaration?
“Oh I see” is hardly an appropriate sentiment.
Don’t you “see” that I ripped my heart from my chest
And presented it to you, still beating, on my best china?
That I tore off all of my layers, one by one, and gave them to you
Wrapped with a bow?
I’m naked now.
But you don’t see it.
Instead you avert your eyes, turn away.
No, you don’t see!!
This is such a sacrifice for me...
To stand before you as all that I am.
But you,
You back away. And walk down the street.
The starlight flickers,
And dies.
