The Next Best Thing

In our addictions we still hunger, for the next big story in our feed. About another act of violence, or some politician’s lies and greed. Still scrolling for hours at a time, to find the gossip that someone said. We will follow down the rabbit hole, believing in every word that’s read. Celebrities living the good life, a life we will never get to know. Who’s the latest, greatest superstar, making a million off their next show. It’s a wonder we can sleep at all, with all that the media can bring. Each time we swear we will give it up, We will see the next best, greatest thing.

There seems to be a theme... or is an act of violence a metaphor for an event or something to happen to which a poet will protest? Thought provoking poetry, Jerry..

Thank you, my friend. Take your pick, my personal favorite is the uproar over Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift.

Why is it that bad news catches our attention, I suppose curiosity gets the better of us every time. Tom

Perhaps it reminds us that someone else is a little worse off than we are. I know that I am a clickbait junkie for sure.

It is additive, Jerry. We've cut back but giving it up completely would be hard to do. Thanks for sharing your thoughts through your poetry, my friend, Bill

I am guilty of spending a little too much time on my phone. I use the excuse that I'm looking for inspiration.
