The Newest Invention In 1893
Worlds fair
Chicago 1893
No one had ever seen it before
A new concept
Who would try it?
George’s kids wanted to.
His wife was askance, but she trusted her husband.
He had built it, right?
They sat gingerly onto the seats.
Pretty soon everyone was clamoring for a ride.
A large upright wheel that revolved on an axil
with people screaming in terror from their seats
The first ferris wheel
named for George Ferris,
the engineer who created it.
Tested by his children and his wife.
