The New Frontier

THE NEW FRONTIER In the blurry distance, a crying woman’s image Tainted and tattered, misfitting rags of yesteryear Perched on poverty’s edge, absorbed by life’s abyss Please help, I’m hungry, the words of a new frontier So soft and sweet her voice, captured me so completely Big brown eyes of a child, yet breathing a homeless hell To be dripping with desperation, and floundering in fear I feel her agony of hunger, past poverty taught me well To carefully open my heart, I let her wander in For three days and nights, she slumbered on my floor I found her a shelter, I found her peace of mind But, no family or friends, but, no life to restore
