Notes About The Poem
New York’s Neediest Cases Fund prompts us that others, even less fortunate, often relapse into a previous condition, mode of conduct or criminal behavior.   It is a bleakness not to be wished on anyone, reminding us there is much to be thankful for.

The Neediest

The Neediest
                     by Odin Roark

Still life furnished room
Broken chair
One dare not sit on
Narrow bed
Hard to sleep on
Table leaning
Daren’t eat on
Two-burner
Caked hard with spilt on
Out the window
Hope often stomped on

Someone’s present year
Destined to be long gone
