The Need To Be

There is within each of us
A desire to succeed,
A yearning to be loved
And a longing to fill a need.

But it’s the deeper part of us
That feels someone's pain,
As we extend our hand
Not for fortune or fame.

With our first breath
Our morals and values begin,
The lessons we grow up with
Score our lose or win.

Compassion is not a given
But a priceless work of art,
As love is a treasure
Buried deep within our heart.

We freely reach out a hand
To help a stranger or a friend,
Because love is the only first aid
Our heart needs to mend.

There is within each of us
A desire to be,
Someone special to another
Where I turns to we.
