The Narcissist In Rhyme

Narcissism shows its ugly head in so many ways Sharp put-downs to show one’s superiority A heightened sense of one’s importance, and Usurping, whenever possible, another’s authority. Self-deceiving, and never able to admit defeat Being in love with themselves, misplaced vanity Slipping into unbelievable fantasy and self-delusion If not properly treated, it can lead to insanity. Taking credit for the accomplishments of others Thinking that nobody can do anything better Setting oneself up as the expert in everything Even playing the role of a renowned jet-setter. One-upmanship, of course, is a favorite ploy Having done anything you have done and more Must be noticed, front row, in every picture At every gathering the consummate bore. Do not believe words from a narcissist’s mouth For lying is second nature to the oafish boor Constantly engage in building themselves up Most of them are rotten right down to the core. I run from them flat out! "Setting oneself up as the expert in everything Even playing the role of a renowned jet-setter." oh, yes, I do know two.

Unfortunately, they are quite common.

You are spot-on. A narcissist's insercurity is his only security. Or perhaps the reverse is more accurate. ~ Associative Rule of Narcissism. LOL. :) gw

Spot on, Milt. I worked with a guy once. He’d worked everywhere, done everything, knew everyone (apart from the alarm clock seller apparently... he was always late) and in the days that the UK had five TV channels, he’d watched every program on every channel, all night. I once added up all his claimed jobs... seems he was a hundred and seven. Terry

LOL. I'm glad you enjoyed the poem, Terry. Thanks for sharing your experience; they are seldom pleasant ones with a narcissist, right?

Ain’t this the truth Milton, personally myself I think it’s incurable, you describe the narcissist so well here, they are indeed nasty pieces of work, excellent writing, cheers David

Thanks so much, David. I did some research on the symptoms, etc., and it turned out pretty good. Narcissists are difficult people. Thanks for your comments.

My sister would love this. She says that "Narcissist" is the word of the year for her, as she realized that's what her ex is. You did a great job of describing this type of person.

Thanks so much, Juliet. I think many people hear the word but do not connect it with the characteristics of the personality. Glad you checked it out.
