The Naked Truth of the Apple

Inside the madness,
There lies an apple seed.

You peel it away,
You tear it apart,
To taste the flesh within.

Before we even realize it,

We
Spit that seed away.

A striking, thought-provoking free-verse piece that turns the simple act of eating an apple into an unsettling reflection on what we discard. The short, fractured lines create a sense of discovery and then sudden recognition, while the isolated “We” gives the ending particular weight. The seed becomes a memorable symbol at the heart of the poem.
