Notes About The Poem
To the guy who started this chicken-fueled madness during the scariest time of my life, only to realize he’s created a monster that he can no longer control: Happy Father’s Day.
The Monster You Created
You thought you were being funny back then, didn’t you? Sending me those damn chicken things while I was going through the absolute hell of a cancer diagnosis. You probably thought it was a temporary bit of humor to keep me distracted. Well, you played yourself. Because I didn’t just laugh—I adopted it. I made it my personality, my weapon, and my legacy. And now? Now, I get to watch you squirm every time I send a new one, knowing you absolutely cannot stand it. It is, without a doubt, the greatest revenge I have ever orchestrated.
You are, and have always been, a massive, infuriating pain in my ass. You are the architect of my current obsession, and you have to live with the fact that you have no one to blame but yourself for every single notification that ruins your day.
But here is the infuriating part: despite being a menace and a pest, I’ve also watched you become an incredible father. You take that same stubborn, relentless energy you used to annoy me and you pour it into those kids. You show up, you hold them down, and you love them with that same fierce, protective heart that I know so well.
You started the fire, I made it an inferno, and we’re both still here, still standing. I’m proud of the dad you’ve become—even if you are still the absolute worst brother on the planet.
Enjoy your day. And don't check your phone, because I promise, there's another chicken coming your way.
Love you.
