The Moments In Between

The moments in between are uncertain
They are the dread between the charge and the verdict
Between the "Hello?" and the "Hey, it's me."
They are the space between the question
and the answer

The moments in between are frustrating
They are the time from the push to the give
And the forever that spans two minutes to the bell
They are long enough to hear the gun fire
Too short to dodge the bullet

The moments in between are terrifying
They are the confusion between the bomb
Going off and the dust beginning to settle;
They are the clarity just before impact
And too late for second thoughts

The moments in between are breathless
They are the gasp between kisses
The pause between phrases
The snatched breath between one verse
And the next

The moments in between are gone too fast
