The Mind of Man

I think of you as the ultimate gift,
Because what else could a man ever need.
So, this food for thought, upon which I feed,
Is the reason why my mind often drifts.
The thought of you often gives me a lift,
Which is the reason why I always plead
For you to be open, so I can read
Your thoughts, before we get into a rift.
When thinking about the joy that you bring,
A forthcoming smile is not hard to find.
And, yes, you are good for more than one thing,
Though that one thing is always on my mind.
You represent the hope to which I cling,
Since, without you, hope would be left behind.
