the meaning

the sound of my voice
loos’d in the wind
a light,
reaching of arms.
the shine and the shade,
the delight alone.
the rush of streets,
the fields and hill-sides.
the feeling,
the song,
meeting the sun.
have you practis’d so long
to learn how to read ?
have you felt so proud
to get at the meaning of
poems?

this day and night,
the good if the earth and sun.
you shall look through the eyes of
the dead.
you shall not look through
my eyes.
you shall listen to yourself.

i heard the talkers talking,
only of the beginning and the end.
i do not talk of the beginning or
the end.

you will never be
perfect.
