The Masks

2020 will be the year of record
when it all changed - and for a simple reason
Oh, we'd had our trials before to be sure
But they were all handled within their season

No, something was different in 2020
The virus, the protests but something else, too
The light went out and the whole mood got ugly
And it tore at everyone, not just the few

What happened that so suddenly changed the world?
The masks - of course, it was the masks all the while
Indeed the masks alone turned out the light
In one stroke we covered up the whole world's smile
