The Mary Rose
Sonetto Rispetto Sonnet
Wind ripped through the rigging and wind was strong
blowing cold,. Sheets with extended billows
were stiff, unyielding and men struggled long
to reef them making safe the Mary Rose.
In waves she pitched and rolled the whole night long
giving crew no quarter and Captain Mose
made much the fight having never lost ship
or men on any North Atlantic trip.
Master Mose welcomed storm, it tried his skill.
This Danish ship and crew would survive storm.
For ten years he’d been captain without loss,
yet this sea was bad testing now his will,
and assaulting weather seemed now the norm
while crashing waves the Mary Rose did toss.
