The Main Event
Two men a fierce heated battle
will wage
Tonight from a nationally
televised stage
Both will be filled with the best
of intent
And the need to score points in
this glorious event
Political rhetoric will be out
front and center
As they bob and weave and
jab, parry and banter
Points will be tallied off
audience applause
For self-serving interpretations
of this great country's laws.
Although both will claim that
they have the answer
To our nation's current
geopolitical cancer
Neither will overly stir up the
pot
Or stray too far from their own
voting block
Gay rights, global warming,
and the NRA
Will be used to leverage
political sway
Inflation, taxation, accusation,
contrition
Will be bloodied and battered
beyond recognition.
But promises made don't mean
promises kept
And when broken, does it
matter if you're right or you're
left
Let's remember the pledge that
still governs us all
"Indivisible, with liberty and
justice for all."
