The Lovelight of Christmas
The Lovelight of Christmas
There was a time
When Christmas was special to me.
A time when trees
Were decorated with handmade strings
Of popcorn and cranberries
And homemade stars that were carefully
Cut out and covered in glitter.
A time when icicles
Were carefully placed
Among bubble lights
That gurgled gleefully
To herald the
Coming of the Christ child.
There was a time
When gifts were lovingly made
By a mother’s hands
And families gathered
To joyfully carol
The birth of a Savior.
We lost that joy,
That veneration –
That made Christmas
A time of quiet reflection
And reverence.
I breathe a sigh of relief
In my prayers tonight
For the blessings I’ve been
Privileged to enjoy in my life;
For the memories that will remain
In my heart forever;
And for the lovelight
That has been bestowed
On my family and friends.
I am richer
For the experience.
I am blessed
For having known
The joys of Christmas
As it once was
And could still be, again.
