The Lot of a Wife and Mother
A wife and a mother is indeed a man's treasure
True and certain, the single source of his pleasure
When he's a boy, she puts him to bed
Just before which his favorite book is read
When he's a bit older, feeling somewhat bolder
To wake him in the morning, she's as strong as a soldier
When he's a man, grown up and married, by day she shops for him
cooks for him, cleans for him …
...Then by night, before she collapses, she even preens for him
She gives birth to his children, his ultimate joy
First there's a girl; then there's a boy
She nurses them, feeds them, bathes them and clothes them
When they play in the yard, she sprays a gentle hose on them
She drives them here; she drives them there
Music, art ahd dance lessons, or to buy the latest software
When the kids marry, she walks them down the aisle
They hug her, say they love her
And note the tears in her smile
