The Lost Kites

Do you remember our old kites
With their yarn-tied knots
Taking to the skies
As we ran through the fields?
Do you remember when they lifted
From broken threads
Vanishing into the lungs of the sky?
I remember almost nothing from that time
I don't know what I ate or drank
But I remember the kites flying away
Leaving a void in our poor small souls

Now, after I've lived my life as best I could
I've left it all, my friend
Everything
Call me what you want
With your rational speech
I care for nothing
Nothing can help
I'm wandering downhearted through the skies
Looking for those runaway kites
They're like erased wishes
Ones I've missed all my life
Making me feel that I could never be
The one I wanted to be
