The Look Back Is Longer
Look not too long - the past is clear
Each step revealed
Each wake revered
Longer is the backward glance
But not with joy - perchance
If Only - comes to mind the eye - of memory
Whose sake is dry
The beating heart that knows no fear -
Has not looked long into the rear
If only we could guard our steps
Avoid the pitfalls at a glance
But no - our vision in the forward - stayed
The backward glance holds its prey!
