THE LONG WALK

I cannot walk the long walk now
My legs and feet feel the sorrow of my brow.
I cannot reach the sea beyond the olive trees
And raise my feet up to rest my weary knees
This you no longer grant to me.
So here in shadowed solitude I keep
The time held still trying not to weep
Before I lay my head down to sleep
