The Long Road
The long road.
From nowhere realisation takes hold,
Childhood again.
Must get out of house or home
If ever it existed,
Walking alone, aimlessly.
Left foot, right foot, left foot, right foot,
Breathe in three, breathe out three,
Left foot, right foot,
Away from unhappiness,
Haunted again by a demon
Now dead and buried, a legacy,
Rotting in hell.
What was is no more.
What is? It's the same
Just a different day
Twenty-three thousand or so different days
From a seven year old.
Left foot, right foot,
Breathe in four, breathe out four,
Left, right, left, right,
Shutting out all thoughts,
Feelings of hate, of love not given.
Focus on now, forget yesterday,
And today.
Hazy memories of wished for dreams
Pulled apart,
Piece by ragged piece,
Tattered remnants blowing in the wind
And never to be at peace.
Left right left right left right left right
Breathe in three, breathe out four,
Left foot, right foot.
People slowly pass yet unseen,
Fading shadows alive and dead
Just disappear
While despair holds a shaking hand.
Left foot, right foot,
The same beaten path
Trees solemnly bow their heads
To a life in transit.
Breathe in two, breathe out four,
Time and heartbeat slow their pace
As reality takes hold again.
Forget the past, the present too,
Left foot, right foot, left right left right.
A spiral staircase appears.
Which way to go?
Up or down? Left or right? Breathe out.
