The Lonely Lamp Pole

The lonely lamp pole
Stand by the roadside
Day and night
Watching
Pedestrians too busy to look up
Drivers too involved to admire
The old lamp pole
Just like an old mother
Standing by the children's side
Watching
Too old to interfere
Too old to be helpful
And now
The children have grown up
Tall and fat
And now
They know how to fly
High and far
And will finally
Out of sight
