Written, August 4, 2026 For The Contest, “The Beautiful Impossible” Theme: The loneliness of being surrounded Sponsor: Sotto Poet -3rd Place
The room was overfilled with one seat left; a mix of women, men, most middle-aged. I slowly sat, and then began to smile at faces that turned up, and looked away. The silence filled the room with empty vibes my ears picked up as each sat all alone, while some were reading or tapping their cells within their private worlds so far apart. Each one of us was there to heal our hearts; some, minor problems, surely, others worse, with minds indulged in their compelling plights. Somehow, I felt deep loneliness surround. I looked away at pictures on the wall, so thankful that my heart issue was slight- yet feeling quite alone within this crowd of patients facing what I'll never know.
