The Little Pine Tree's Wish

Not too long ago, in a forest so dense, a pine tree shot up from a seedling that fell between bigger ones that prevented the sun from helping it grow, and it felt so alone. If only I could have sprung up on a lawn where sunshine and rain can help me become tall. Where I can be seen as a special pine tree with flowers around me, how happy I'd be. Now there was a boy, living just down the road, who had a dear grandma he'd visit that day. And since Christmas season, it was at the time, she'd wished for a tree that was pretty, but small. So grandson went off to the woods and dug up the little pine tree and he took it right home. Into a clay pot, with good soil, planted it and brought it to grandma to soon decorate. The little pine tree was as pleased as can be with shiny red balls and a star at the top. Inside the bay window, it bathed in the sun and with enough water, soon felt himself grow. In time, came the Spring, and another surprise! The boy brought it out and then planted the tree on grandma's green lawn with some tulips around in view of the window where it would be seen. The little pine tree was so glad it was found... ...to live all its days on the sunny green lawn. February 4, 2019 For Contest, 'A Fairy Tale For Children,' sponsored by Eve Roper Yes, I would have loved to read this story to my grandchildren. However, they are grown up now. I will save it for any 'greats' someday!

What a lovely story,Sandra and although it was free verse it still had a swing to it. I enjoyed reading this and it would go down really well with young children.
