The Line

You and your brothers
Return from yet another failed attempted of an attack.
This is the final down and they have stopped you
 At every play
But now it is up to you and your brothers to get that final yard.
You line up yet again to a seeming giant.
 But you are not afraid.
You know if you fail you let yourself down
 As well as the team.
You hear the frantic voice of the quarterback call
 “Down set Hut!”
You furiously get out of your stance and attack this unwelcome giant
Keeping him at bay long enough for the play to be executed flawlessly.
The ball is thrown perfectly to our key player
 A first down is called.
You look back at your brothers
 And they smile back.
No one else knows the small victory that had just been won.
No one expect the brothers of the line.

Hey, you're right on point. One yard is a step forward when marching to the goal post. I like the flow of this poem. Welcome to Poetry Soup and keep writing. Great job! Joseph
