The Lilt

I miss the lilt…
There's a balance in nature, denial or not
And when we try to divorce ourselves from it
We are ignoring the hole that opens there
Which has to be filled by something…
And we're not always careful about what fills it

It's unnatural, this oversight
And the breach it creates is something we can't fathom
                                     Nagging there, underneath it all

There's a rule to measure everything
The breadth, the depth, the height, the length
Hardness, moisture, pressure, temperature
                                                 Calculating age

But there's no rule for this
            Or maybe… it's life

I miss a lot of things
I miss commas, periods, dashes, double letters in the editing of life
But more than anything… I miss the lilt
