The Lighthouse

nightfall on ocean
     sea of black and indigo
             ... protective beam shines

sentry on cliff's edge
with light of warmth and comfort
               ... lighthouse guides us home

We have lighthouses here on the East Coast facing the Atlantic Ocean as well. There is a famous one just a little to the northeast of my location in Barnegat, NJ.

Really like the comparison of the lighthouse to a sentry, Francine. Lost in a storm one time, a lighthouse helped me find my way to shore. Indeed, it is an omen of comfort on the dark sea. Best wishes in the contest, dear. Love, Carolyn
