The Lighter Side of Diversity

I don't see many white NBA players
   even fewer white all-stars
I wonder what kind of xenophobic tyrants
   the owners and commissioner are

Not one Latino hockey player that I know
   has made it to the big-time, to the NHL's show
Demonstrating once more and again
   How our deep-seated prejudices continue to grow

As for gay football players, there's only been one
   He sat on the sidelines, and he was done
Where's that rainbow of pigskin diversity
   Like Colin Kaepernick, it's taken a knee...

There's this old-fashioned idea that 'talent will out'
   ~ Which is inherently biased, no doubt

I am troubled by the utter lack of Hittites in professional golf and Philistines in pro tennis, though I understand there's one by the name of Goliath who might do well in WWE!

You know, the dearth of Hittites in professional golf is puzzling. Those warriors swung a mean club. And as for Philistines in tennis: I think we actually have had a number of them over the years: Jimmy Conners, John McEnroe, the Williams sisters, Martina N.,... lol. I realize that I forgot to note the dearth of Puerto Rican Nationals on the U.S. Olympic Diving Team. Isn't that horrible! Shocking! :) Gershon

I can never understand why companies have to recruit so many blacks, so many whites etc. In my book colour should not come into it. You're either capable of doing the job or not, nothing to do with racism. Tom

You nailed it again.. 'talent will out' ~ Which is inherently biased, no doubt..Equality is mostly a misinterpreted term.. Equal opportunity to compete, not equal selection..
