The Light Shines Through
The light shines through
The broken places of my mind
Where people are too often unkind
Where I see things with a different view
Where my vision I’m told is askew
Where I’ve learned to not believe in everything I think
That bad habit led me down the road of drink
I don’t let anyone tell me who I am anymore
The light shines through
The broken traces of my soul
When I lost faith in God at seven years old
It took four decades for me to be carried back home
In the time since then I feel I’ve come into my own
With friends it’s not about loving them more
Rather it’s about knowing them more
The love is already there
The light shines through
The broken places of my heart
Where hurt and betrayal embered a spark
Where forgiveness means letting myself off the hook
Where I find solace in the pages of the book
Where no one really knows the heart of anyone else
It’s a life full of words, friends and dancing for myself
