The Last Leaf

Oh, the sorrows of Fall days The scantily undressed trees The skinny twigs all around Little life is life all the same Reminds us of O.Henry’s The Last leaf, a masterpiece. The painter, an unsuccessful one Gives his life to save a young life Life that clings on a ray of hope Painting a lifeless leaf thro’ the night The painted soulless leaf Giving life to lonesome soul. Ready to make its final journey Thus, becoming a masterpiece of Of an unsuccessful painter Success begets many godfathers But failure remains an orphan.

Brilliant writing, Dr. Ram. Those last two lines could be a proverb! Pursuing our art does seem to give us life. O'Henry is one of my favorite writers and The Last Leaf one of his best works. Extraordinarily insightful poem! Love, carolyn

Here is food for thought. Isn't it ironic though that so many great works become famous after their creator's death, and strangers to the creator reap the monetary rewards - the godfathers you speak of. Great write, Doctor. Love, daver

Ah, a fellow philosopher! I always have believed that a true poet is an enlightened philosopher who has fallen in love with some particular truth. And while the average philosopher constantly grapples with the truth trying to understand it, the poet embraces it for what it is.

Great piece of poetry, Dr. Ram! Isnt' it a pity that most of the artists will never know of their success? Isn't it sick that van Gogh had to starve and toay his work goes for millions? Enjoyed reading your poem today and thank you for your kind comment...Gert
